RPSopwith
Classic side-scrolling World War I biplane dogfights and bombing runs
Mission Overview & Story
A faithful reimagining of the iconic 1984 PC dogfighting classic Sopwith for the Picocomputer RP6502. Fly a biplane through hostile skies, manage speed to avoid stalls, strafe enemy targets, drop precision bombs, and survive long enough to return home and touch down on your airstrip.
Flight Mechanics & Combat Strategy
- Throttle Control: Speed management is critical — too little speed and you stall; too much speed and you sacrifice bombing accuracy.
- Flaps & Pitch: Pull up or dive to line up machine gun sweeps on ground targets and enemy biplanes.
- Flip Maneuver: Use the plane flip key (.) to execute an instant 180° tactical turnaround during dogfights.
- Home Base Landing: When bombs or ammunition run low, navigate back to your home airfield, throttle down, and perform a landing to refuel and rearm.
Engine Features
- Scrolling terrain world with sprite-based player, enemy aircraft, and projectiles.
- Deterministic 10 Hz simulation engine with smooth 60 Hz render interpolation.
- Full keyboard and gamepad support (with optional
JOYSTICK_SH.DATcalibration).
